Reducing Risk to Utility and Transportation Systems
                from Hazards

The American Lifelines Alliance (ALA) is a public-private partnership project funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and managed by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), with the goal of reducing risks to lifelines from hazards.

Lifelines are those essential utility and transportation systems that serve communities across all jurisdictions and locales. ALA is developing guidelines to improve the performance of these systems in the event of natural hazards (e.g. earthquakes, floods, windstorms, etc.) and man-made threats (e.g. biological, chemical, radiological, blast, and cyber).
